A three-day hands-on workshop in brain-tanning hides using Stone Age techniques, held at the Steinzeitpark Dithmarschen archaeological open-air museum in Albersdorf, Germany. Participants work through the complete process of transforming a raw deer hide into soft, durable buckskin using brain emulsions, smoking methods, and other techniques documented in the ethnographic and archaeological record. Instructor Markus Klek of PALÄOTECHNIK brings over thirty years of experience in prehistoric tanning technology with a focus on European Paleolithic and Neolithic methods.

For more than thirty years, Paläotechnik has offered an intensive engagement with prehistoric material culture, living history, and heritage interpretation - in theory and practice.

Our archaeotechnical work focuses on European prehistory- from the late Paleolithic to the Neolithic. Archaeological evidence supplemented by ethnographic data allow for a fact-based reconstruction of stone age material culture.

Animal skin processing and tanning technology, as well as related fields like garment production and sewing technology, belong to our core competences.

Paläotechink offers detailed know-how in producing prehistoric replicas and authentic clothing.

Our expertise is valued by private individuals, film productions, museums, and other institutions.
