DESCRIPTION:A free online talk by Kathleen Barvick\, Amerind Emerging Scholar-in-Residence and recent PhD from the University of Arizona\, exploring how Salado polychrome pottery illuminates the Kayenta diaspora across the American Southwest in the 1300s and 1400s. Barvick examines how a massive drought in the late 1200s triggered migrations from the Four Corners region\, and how Kayenta immigrants used distinctive polychrome vessel forms to maintain shared pottery-making practices and negotiate identity across far-flung communities.
