Introduction
The Cochno Stone in Scotland is covered in Neolithic cup-and-ring marks that have been interpreted as an ancient cosmological map. Early researchers believed these symbols were used to predict and "defeat" eclipses and other celestial events, serving as a massive calendar for the prehistoric community. The stone was buried in 1965 to protect it from vandalism, leaving modern researchers to work from casts and 3D scans.
Our research utilizes 3D scanning and astronomical software to test the "cosmic map" hypothesis against the night sky of the Neolithic. We are following the leads of the Scottish sky-watchers and picking up the trails of evidence for prehistoric astronomy.
