Orin Langelle is the director of [https://www.langellephoto.org/ Langelle Photography]. His first assignment was photographing Vietnam War protests during the [https://www.langellephoto.org/Protests-at-the-Republican-National-Convention 1972 Republican National Convention] in Miami Beach, Florida. He formally studied with Cornell Capa, executive director of the [https://www.langellephoto.org/about-us International Center of Photography] in New York. Langelle has photographed on six continents, worked in strategic communications, and co-founded the [https://globaljusticeecology.org/ Global Justice Ecology Project]. He is the author of ''[https://langellephoto.org/portraits-of-struggle/ Portraits of Struggle: Photos From 1972-2023, North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia]'' (Global Justice Ecology Project, 2024).

We know we are in a climate catastrophe. The response coming from the United Nations and countries throughout the world is not adequate to address the problem. As Swedish activist Greta Thunberg [https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/03/uk/greta-thunberg-net-zero-swearing-cop26-intl-scli-gbr/index.html says], “Change is not going to come from inside [the United Nations]. That is not leadership . . . . We say, ‘No more blah, blah, blah.’ ” Yet the [https://unfccc.int/process-and-meetings UN climate conferences] ''are'' a proper forum for one thing—protests against the status quo, as I have documented through my photographs. The increased participation by civil society groups and Indigenous peoples’ organizations at the United Nations has been met by mounting repression. Any form of protest must be approved or delegates will be evicted, sometimes violently, by UN security.

Orin Langelle’s exhibit, ''Portraits of Struggle'', captures the efforts of people striving for justice all over the globe. Langelle’s photographs record a wide range of topics, cultures, ecosystems and geographies. From rebel territory behind military lines in Chiapas, Mexico, to the front lines of protests against the World Bank, G-8 and other bodies of economic control, his work uses the power of photojournalism to expose social and ecological injustice by showcasing struggles of communities, activists, workers and Indigenous Peoples–against racism, war, ecological devastation, climatic disruption, economic domination, human rights abuses and the oppression of women.
