Bibimbap (Mixed Rice Bowl)

Bibimbap's origins trace to ancestral ceremonies where many small dishes were combined into one bowl.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups short-grain rice. Toppings: spinach blanched and seasoned with sesame
  • bean sprouts
  • carrots julienned and sautĂ©ed
  • mushrooms sautĂ©ed
  • zucchini
  • 1 egg per bowl (fried or raw yolk)
  • 100g beef bulgogi (marinated). Sauce: 2 tbsp gochujang
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

Method

  1. Preparing — Prepare each topping separately, season with soy and sesame.
  2. Step 2 — For dolsot (stone pot) version: heat stone bowl with sesame oil, press in rice until sizzling.
  3. Arranging — Arrange toppings in sections over rice. Place egg on top.
  4. Mixing — Mix gochujang sauce, serve alongside.
  5. Mixing — Mix everything at the table before eating.
