Full English Breakfast

The "full English" evolved in Victorian Britain as a substantial meal for the working class and has become a national cultural institution.

Ingredients

  • 2 rashers smoked back bacon
  • 2 pork sausages
  • 1–2 eggs (fried or scrambled)
  • 2 grilled tomatoes, halved
  • 100 g baked beans (tinned)
  • 4–6 mushrooms, sautéed in butter
  • 2 slices black pudding
  • 2 slices toast (white or brown)
  • Butter for cooking
  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Grilling — Grill or fry sausages over medium heat, turning regularly, about 12 minutes until cooked through.
  2. Frying — Fry bacon in same pan until desired crispness; keep warm.
  3. Frying — Fry black pudding 2 minutes each side; keep warm.
  4. Sautéing — Sauté mushrooms in butter; season. Keep warm.
  5. Grilling — Grill or fry tomatoes until soft and slightly caramelized.
  6. Heating — Heat baked beans in small saucepan.
  7. Frying — Fry eggs in butter to preference.
  8. Arranging — Arrange all components on a warm plate with toast; serve immediately.
