Naan

Ingredients

  • 300g maida
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 150ml warm water
  • 3 tbsp yogurt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • butter for finishing
  • nigella seeds (kalonji) or garlic optional

Method

  1. Dissolving — Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; rest 10 min until frothy.
  2. Mixing — Mix flour, salt, yogurt, oil. Add yeast water; knead 8 min to smooth dough.
  3. Covering — Cover; rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
  4. Dividing — Divide into balls; roll into teardrops 3–4mm thick.
  5. Cooking — Cook on very hot tawa or cast iron. Flip; cook other side or finish under broiler.
  6. Brushing — Brush with butter immediately. Sprinkle nigella seeds or garlic.
