Keftedes (Greek Meatballs)

Mint in Greek meatballs is a distinctly Hellenic touch absent from Turkish köfte.

Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef/lamb mix
  • 1 onion grated
  • 2 slices stale bread soaked in water and squeezed
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp fresh mint chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh oregano
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • salt
  • pepper
  • olive oil for frying

Method

  1. Combining — Combine all ingredients except oil. Mix thoroughly, refrigerate 30 min.
  2. Shaping — Shape into small oval patties.
  3. Step 3 — Pan-fry in olive oil over medium heat, 3–4 min per side until cooked through.
