Title
Palaeolithic Acheulian handaxe
Description
English: A flint Acheulian handaxe of sub-cordate form dating to the Lower-Middle Palaeolithic (c. 400,000 - c. 180,000 BC). The flint is blue-grey in colour with staining of a buff-cream hue. Removals cover the axe, particularly along the edges. These have been worn smooth by water action (see findspot land use). On one surface the axe has been subjected to fewer removals ensuring a more convex shape presumably to aid holding.
