There are three types of links:
#'''External links.''' Use these for non-Observatory links. They point to the current wiki (Observatory) pages and use a double square bracket syntax and optional pipe between the page name and the link text (if they differ): <nowiki>[[Article Title]]</nowiki> or <nowiki>[[Article_Title]]</nowiki> or <nowiki>[[Author Name to Go to Their Page]]</nowiki> or <nowiki>[[Recipe:Classics:The Plain Sailing Cook Book/540. Artichokes—French|Artichokes—French]]</nowiki>. Always use internal links for any link that begins with observatory.wiki—don’t use external links (''bad'': <nowiki>[https://www.observatory.wiki/Page_Title]</nowiki>; ''good'': <nowiki>[[Page_Title]]</nowiki> ).
#'''Interwiki links.''' These go to any page on Wikipedia or MediaWiki project sites. Interwiki links use the wikilinks syntax (double square brackets, a pipe), but with a prefix (see https://ed.observatory.wiki/Special:Interwiki for options). We recommend using “Visual editing” mode and inputting the URL of the Wikipedia project site page; alternatively, you may use “Source editing” mode to link like this: <nowiki>[[wikipedia:The_Manhasset|The Manhasset]]</nowiki>; since our developer defined the English Wikisource prefix (en.wikisource), we can also link like this <nowiki>[[wikisource:The Plain Sailing Cook Book/Recipes#83|page 83]]</nowiki> or like this <nowiki>[[:en.wikisource:The Plain Sailing Cook Book/Recipes#83|page 83]]</nowiki>.
 
If you try to Save a page containing a link with the incorrect <code>&#91;&#91;/</code> link syntax pattern, you will see a pop-up error message and will be unable to Save the page until you fix the link. (The pop-up error message about <code>&#91;&#91;/</code> will say: “The following text is what triggered our spam filter: &#91;&#91;/”—but the error is not related to spam. Just find the incorrect link and correct it so you can Save successfully.)
