Fish Curry (Kerala Style)

Ingredients

  • 500g fish (kingfish or sardines)
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 3 shallots (sliced)
  • 1 tsp ginger (grated)
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 3 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 200ml coconut milk
  • salt
  • 2 green chilies

Method

  1. Heating — Heat coconut oil; splutter mustard and curry leaves.
  2. Adding — Add shallots, ginger, garlic; fry until golden.
  3. Adding — Add chili powder, turmeric, coriander; fry 2 min. Add tamarind pulp with 1 cup water; boil.
  4. Adding — Add fish pieces and green chilies; simmer 10 min.
  5. Stirring — Stir in coconut milk; simmer 5 min. Do not boil after adding coconut milk.
