Baklava (Greek Style)

🌍 Mediterranean, Greece Difficulty: ●●●○○

Baklava's origins are debated among Turkish, Greek, Arab, and Persian cooks — all have centuries-old versions.

Ingredients

  • 500g walnuts roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp cloves
  • 400g butter melted
  • 500g phyllo dough. Syrup: 300g sugar
  • 200ml water
  • 200g honey
  • strip of lemon peel
  • 2 cloves

Method

  1. Mixing — Mix nuts with cinnamon and cloves.
  2. Brushing — Brush 30×20cm pan. Layer 8 phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter.
  3. Spreading — Spread nut mixture. Continue layering remaining phyllo, buttering each.
  4. Scoring — Score into diamonds. Bake 160°C (325°F)/160°C (320°F) for 60–70 minutes until deep gold.
  5. Making — Make syrup: boil all ingredients 10 min. Pour cold syrup over hot baklava.
