Baklava (Greek Style)
Baklava's origins are debated among Turkish, Greek, Arab, and Persian cooks — all have centuries-old versions.
Ingredients
- 500g walnuts roughly chopped
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp cloves
- 400g butter melted
- 500g phyllo dough. Syrup: 300g sugar
- 200ml water
- 200g honey
- strip of lemon peel
- 2 cloves
Method
- Mixing — Mix nuts with cinnamon and cloves.
- Brushing — Brush 30×20cm pan. Layer 8 phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter.
- Spreading — Spread nut mixture. Continue layering remaining phyllo, buttering each.
- Scoring — Score into diamonds. Bake 160°C (325°F)/160°C (320°F) for 60–70 minutes until deep gold.
- Making — Make syrup: boil all ingredients 10 min. Pour cold syrup over hot baklava.
