Shrimp Moilee
Moilee is a mild, coconut-forward curry developed in Kerala's Christian communities.
Ingredients
- 500 g large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 large onion, sliced thin
- 4 garlic cloves, sliced
- 1 in ginger, julienned
- 3 green chilies, slit
- ½ tsp turmeric
- 400 ml thin coconut milk
- 200 ml thick coconut milk
- 2 sprigs curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Method
- Heating — Heat coconut oil; splutter mustard seeds, add curry leaves.
- Adding — Add onion, cook until translucent. Add garlic, ginger, chilies, turmeric.
- Adding — Add thin coconut milk, bring to gentle simmer.
- Adding — Add shrimp, cook 4 min until just pink.
- Adding — Add thick coconut milk, heat gently 2 min. Do not boil.
- Serving — Serve with appam or white rice.
