Description
Español: basilisco verde (Basiliscus plumifrons). Tristemente comercializado como mascota para terrarofilia. El macho presenta una doble cresta, una en la cabeza y la otra en la parte anterior del dorso. La hembra, como la mostrada en esta fotografía, tiene un solo pliegue en la parte posterior del cráneo. No son tímidos; con movimientos muy lentos por parte del fotógrafo permiten cierto acercamiento hasta 1 m de distancia. Como todos los basiliscos puede correr cortas distancias sobre el agua aunque también es un extraordinario buceador. Su hábitat se extiende desde Centro América hasta Argentina y Chile. Aun siendo omnívoros se alimentan principalmente de insectos y habría que preguntarse que pasara con el mosquito que en la foto le esta tocando..... uno de sus ojos. Fotografiado en el PN de Cahuita (Costa Rica).
