This book is a collection of fourteen original essays. Written with meticulous observation and backed up by solid scientific research, the stories invite us to examine the wonderful connections among living things on this planet. They also serve as a reminder of the urgent need to protect our fast-diminishing biodiversity.
Lyons meets common eiders in Alaska, sting rays in Baja California, and ibex in the Alps. She invites us to consider what we have in common with other species, even those that seem very different such as sea stars and sponges.
The book’s premise is that when we take the time to know unfamiliar creatures, we are more likely to alter our choices and behaviors in ways that ensure their continued existence on the planet.
