A six-week summer field school at Kampsville, Illinois, run by the Center for American Archeology, where participants excavate the German Site — a Late Woodland/Jersey Bluff Phase habitation occupied approximately 800–1200 CE. Under the direction of professional archaeologists, students learn survey, excavation, and laboratory techniques while investigating house basins, storage pits, and domestic artifacts including chert tools, pottery, and botanical remains. The programme runs from 28 June to 8 August 2026, with enrollment available in one- to six-week increments for adults of all ages and experience levels.

Typical Weekly Schedule (Monday–Friday)
- 6:50 AM – Depart for breakfast
- 7:00 AM – Breakfast
- 8:00 AM – Begin fieldwork
- 10:00 AM – Break
- 10:15 AM – Fieldwork
- 12:30 PM – Lunch at site
- 1:15 PM – Fieldwork
- 3:45 PM – Field check-in and tarp units
- 4:20 PM – Drive to dinner
- 5:00 PM – Dinner
- 5:45 PM – Break
- 7:00 PM – Evening session / lab work
- 9:00 PM – Free time
- 10:00 PM – Quiet time
Sunday: Arrival and orientation (no formal programming)
Saturday: Participants depart; returning participants: laundry and shopping
