Valeria Falabella is the director of coastal marine conservation at Wildlife Conservation Society, Argentina. A marine biologist with over two decades of experience, she leads a team dedicated to designing and promoting conservation strategies in the Patagonian Sea. She has worked on marine mammal ecology, physiology, diving behavior, and spatial analysis.
Falabella has experience identifying priority conservation areas through the integration and analysis of geo-referenced data, designing marine protected areas (MPAs), creating strategies for the effective implementation of MPAs, and advocating for the creation of new MPAs. She is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.External

The authors report epidemiological data and full genome characterization of clade 2.3.4.4b H5N1 HPAI viruses associated with a massive outbreak in southern elephant seals (Mirounga leonina) at Península Valdés, Argentina, in October 2023.
