Introduction
The search for the final resting places of the Old Kingdom's greatest pharaohs has led some researchers to investigate the Pyramid of Amenemhat I at Lisht. A compelling theory suggests that during the chaos of the First Intermediate Period, royal officials may have relocated the mummies from the vulnerable Giza plateau to this later, more secure Middle Kingdom site. This "royal cache" strategy would mirror the well-documented efforts of New Kingdom priests who moved famous pharaohs to secret chambers to protect them from widespread tomb robbery.
