Introduction
How six million tonnes of limestone and granite were raised to the height of a forty-storey building remains the most debated question in the study of Egyptian pyramid construction. The Great Pyramid of Giza reaches 146.6 metres, and the uppermost courses required the placement of blocks at elevations where even the most conservative ramp models become logistically problematic. Copper chisels, rope, wooden sledges, and coordinated human labour are the attested tools; the question is not whether these were sufficient — they manifestly were — but what geometrical and organisational strategy was employed to deliver stone to progressively greater heights.
