Parameters

  • category (optional) — Category name (without "Category:" prefix; defaults to PAGENAME)
  • limit (optional) — Maximum articles to display (default: 500)
  • sort (optional) — Sort property (default: Is featured, Modification date)
  • order (optional) — Sort order: asc or desc (default: desc, desc)
  • Area banner background (optional) — File name of the banner image
  • Area banner text (optional) — Area display name (also the default category)
  • Area description (optional) — Area description paragraph
  • Area featured articles (optional) — semicolon list; featured rows sort first via the Is featured property
  • Wall extra categories (optional) — SMW condition OR-ed into the featured card-wall ask. For areas whose content pages are not in Category:Articles / don't carry the Area property (e.g. Classics book pages in Category:Classics) the wall would otherwise match 0 and the pane falls back to the CSS-hidden plain list. Example:

Design provenance

Markup ported from the V1-era Module:Area render (1106 lines, restored Aug 6 in 229f36ae, cut Sep 3 in 940b49fa). The 2026-09 canonicalization dropped the guides pane, news pane, featured card wall, and map search — Jan noticed the loss live (2026-09-14) and this restore puts the sections back as pure wikitext: facts stay in SMW queries (#ask), rendering stays in the existing Area item / Guide cards / Article geo pin renderers. No Lua was added; every invocation targets a module that already exists on the wiki.
